Wings for Armor debuts

Quaker Steak and Lube in Sharon will be serving Wings for Armor along with wings on Friday.

Wings for Armor is the local female duo of singer-guitarist Murph and drummer Christy, who started playing together in 2009 and recently released the debut album "Chasing and Being Chased."

If you like heartfelt, this alt-rock duo, which takes its cues from 30 Seconds to Mars, Tegan and Sara, Linkin Park and Taylor Swift, clearly delivers with songs that wear the players' emotions right on their wings.

The show is at 6 p.m. Friday at 101 Chestnut St., with Devour the Day. Admission is $10; www.wingsforarmor.com.

This debut release from the local duo is nothing if not ambitious. Comprised of guitarist/bassist/keyboardist Murph and drummer Christy (they take a minimalist approach to self-identification), Wings For Armor is all about the drama, from its sweeping, synth-and-guitar-driven surges to the raw, angst-filled lyrics. Musically, the record evokes Lacuna Coil, Thirty Seconds to Mars and Taylor Swift in equal measure. It's way too long, but this band has a lot to get out there, and — quite frankly — it feels good to listen to something so unabashedly sincere.
